I am aware of the break in 1NF but need use the item_name as a key. I was hoping MySQL had some sort of sequence available to auto append to similar keys.
I could of course check if the key exists, and then change the value in the application layer to my-item-2 (See http://tem-2.ora-code.com), but was hoping to do it in a single query.
