you could give the maxdb-buildtools package in Debian a try. You can use this
package even if you want to do a regular compile and don't want to build the
Debian packages of MaxDB. Even if you can't use the binary packages you could
still try to compile it because it contains some compile fixes for gcc-4 (See http://gcc-4.ora-code.com).1 that
are not necessarily in the sources available from MySQL.
