Back I'm a new user who has probably made a simple error but despite checking through the manual I cannot see where I have gone wrong. I have MySQL installed on my Windows XP PC (fully up to date). MySQL works OK in that using the Mysql command line client I have created a table in the test database and entered some data. So far so good. I have installed v3.51 ODBC drive. I then try to set up a DSN using the Windows ODBC Data Source Adminsitrator. Everything goes OK except that when I get to the stage where you click the Test button (having entered localhost, root username, password) I get a 10061 error message which means, I beleive, the connection is being rejected by MySQL. But I followed the MySQL reference manual using when installing and cannot see why it accepts the MySQL command client but not the ODBC driver. What do I need to change? Nothing in the manual. I supect a common oversight on my part. Does anyone know some likely mistakes I may have made? (or oversights in the manual?). Thanks. Tony S.
